Have you picked the wrong MC for your event? You’ll know instantly when you’ve lost communication with them after they’ve committed. You’ve tried emailing, calling – no response. Or maybe they respond and said they’ll get back to you and they never do .. until the last minute and by then, you’ve lost your mind with worry. You want an MC that cares about your event as much as you do. Another warning sign? They don’t ask for any prep material. A good MC that cares about the job they do for you will ask you for some background information on your organization, on the event, even last year’s script so they can see what the event is all about – even a video from previous years. They’ll want confirmation in writing about what time you need them to be there – they don’t want to be late. They’ll ask about the dress code is – a good MC will worry about being under-dressed for the occasion. They’ll want to know about special guests attending, the do’s and do not’s if any and they may even ask for directions to the event and where to park. A good MC may even have a standard form that they ask you do fill out that confirms all the detailed information they need to ensure a successful event.
Bottom line, a professional MC is just that – they are professional. They work for you and want to do the best job possible. If you’re not feeling one hundred percent confident in your MC, get a new one prior to the event. MC’s are often the glue that holds your event together and can basically make it or break it. If you’re losing sleep over your decision, you’ve made the wrong choice.
Next time, why you should budget for a professional MC!
